Heating oil tanks can be used for domestic and commercial purposes, and we provide them throughout the UK and internationally. As Tuffa is one of the industry leaders, there’s no worry about a lack of experience. Plastic heating oil tanks and steel heating oil tanks are available in capacities from 900 litres to 20,000 litres. All parts and materials are high quality, which ensure safe and reliable storage at all times.
We are able to create bespoke heating oil tanks, which means that your specific requirements can be taken into account. There’s no need to worry about not finding a tank that has your ideal dimensions. There are also fire rated oil tanks available.
Choosing a Heating Oil Tank Size
You can view all of our heating oil tanks as a long term investment, as they are built to last. By buying a tank with a large capacity, you can save money on kerosene. Though the initial heating tank cost will be more, you can save money in the long run by bulk buying kerosene. The price of kerosene often changes, but a larger tank allows you to stock up when prices are low. You can take advantage of offers, deals and savings. A large heating oil tank also means you don’t need to refuel it as often, which can reduce the cost of deliveries. It also reduces the chances of you running out of fuel completely. Over the course of the tank’s lifespan, these savings really do add up. It’s a good idea to opt for the highest heating oil tank capacity within your budget and space.
Heating Oil Tank Guarantee
All of our heating oil tanks come with a 10 year guarantee when registered, and our single skin heating tanks come with a two year guarantee when registered. You will also receive a one year guarantee on ancillary goods. To extend the lifespan of your heating oil tank, carry out regular maintenance and checks.

Requirements and Regulations for Storing Oil
There are a number of legal requirements in England for storing oil, dictated by the Control of Pollution Regulations (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001.
● Oil tanks with a capacity larger than 3,500 litres must have a bund.
● Oil tanks located in an area where spills risk polluting groundwater must have a bund.
● All oil tanks must have a life expectancy of 20 years or more.
● All oil tanks must be made using a suitable material for storing oil.
● All ancillary equipment must be placed within the secondary containment system.
● When it’s not practical to observe the pipe or tank, automatic overfill prevention devices must be used.
Heating Oil Tanks in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland
There’s a large focus on protecting the environment and this means that regulations in Wales are becoming increasingly strict. Any heating oil tank in Wales with a capacity of more than 200 litres must be bunded. In Scotland, any oil tank with a capacity of more than 2,500 litres must be bunded. In Northern Ireland, it’s the same secondary containment requirements as England and all tanks with a capacity of more than 3,500 liters must be bunded. If you choose a fire protected heating oil tank, then you have more flexibility with distances from the tank to the building. All you need to do is ensure the base is at least 50mm thick. There’s a lot more flexibility on placement.
