Bunded Heating Oil Tanks

Our bunded diesel fuel tanks provide a safe and secure method for storing and using diesel fuels for commercial, domestic and agricultural purposes. Using premium, quality equipment, our bunded fuel tanks are fitted with an overfill device and are lockable to aid security. The bund ensures that any leaks from the inner part of the bunded plastic fuel tank are captured, which provides essential protection to the surrounding environment.

Bunded diesel tanks have two layers – an interior tank and an outer tank which acts as a secondary containment (a tank within a tank). In the event of a leak from the main tank, the external tank layer will contain all the oil which would otherwise risk contaminating the local area.

Integrally bunded fuel tanks are the most popular kind of secondary containment. The alternative involves constructing a bund from masonry or concrete which is inconvenient, costly and makes a time-consuming installation. All of our diesel tanks are integrally bunded

All of our bunded plastic fuel tanks are fitted with submersible pumping units, consisting of a pump, flow-meter, a delivery hose and automatic shut-off nozzle, filtration and gauge.

Fuel tanks which hold larger capacities also come complete with a secondary tank and overfill devices, and a lockable security cabinet containing any relevant equipment. We can produce bespoke fuel tanks on request.

All of these diesel tanks come complete and ready to use; all that is required is a hard, flat concrete base and your final electrical connection.

Overview of Bunded Oil Tanks

Bunded oil tanks provide a more secure and environmentally friendly solution for storing oil, whether it be heating oil, diesel, or other petroleum products. A bunded oil tank consists of a "tank within a tank" design, which helps to prevent spills and leaks. Below is an overview of the key aspects of bunded oil tanks:

Key Features:

  • Double Layer: The main distinguishing feature is the double-layer design, consisting of an inner tank where the oil is stored and an outer tank that acts as a protective layer.
  • Capacity: Available in various sizes, ranging from small domestic tanks of around 1,000 liters to larger commercial tanks that can hold 10,000 liters or more.
  • Material: Typically made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or steel, both of which are durable and resistant to corrosion.
  • Access Points: Equipped with secure access points for filling, inspection, and maintenance.
  • Leak Detection: Some models come with built-in leak detection systems to quickly identify any breaches in the inner tank.
  • Venting: Properly vented to prevent the buildup of pressure or fumes inside the tank.

Advantages:

  • Environmental Protection: The bunded design significantly reduces the risk of oil spills and leaks, protecting the surrounding environment.
  • Compliance: Helps in meeting strict environmental and safety regulations regarding oil storage.
  • Durability: Constructed to be robust and durable, often with a longer lifespan than single skin tanks.
  • Security: The enclosed design and durable materials help protect the oil from theft and vandalism.
  • Peace of Mind: Offers a greater sense of security and peace of mind for owners, knowing that they are taking extra precautions to prevent spills.

Installation and Maintenance:

  • Site Preparation: Requires a stable and level base capable of supporting the full weight of the tank and its contents.
  • Professional Installation: Installation should be conducted by professionals to ensure compliance with all regulations and safety standards.
  • Regular Inspections: Regular checks and maintenance are crucial to ensure the tank remains in good condition.
  • Cleaning: Periodic cleaning is necessary, especially for the inner tank.

Environmental Considerations:

  • Reduction of Spills: The bunded design significantly reduces the risk of oil spills, protecting soil and water from contamination.
  • Recyclability: Many bunded tanks are recyclable at the end of their lifecycle.

Regulations:

  • Strict Compliance: Must adhere to strict oil storage regulations, which vary by country and region.
  • Certifications: May require certain certifications to verify that they meet all safety and environmental standards.

Conclusion:

Bunded oil tanks offer a secure and environmentally responsible solution for storing oil. Their double-layer design provides added protection against spills and leaks, helping owners comply with stringent regulations and providing peace of mind. Though they can be more expensive upfront compared to single skin tanks, their long-term benefits and added security make them a worthwhile investment. Proper installation and regular maintenance are crucial to ensure their optimal performance and longevity.
